
Citi polytechnic was established in 2018
The department of mass communication was introduced into Citi polytechnic, to expose students to maximum and adequate training in the field of mass communication, in order to produce independent, responsible, conscientious and ethical professionals that will aid and promote the growth of this great country, Nigeria.
The school has built and provided adequate facilities that will enable and equip students to be properly trained. The PR office and the newsroom were recently launched, the PR office is there to teach and guide students on how PR officials do their jobs, their different departments and how they relate, because PR also known as Public relations is the deliberate, planned and sustained process of systematically building and maintaining mutual relationships with an individual(s), organization and its publics. The newsroom is to allow students practice how to gather, produce and disseminate news and contents.
The school also provided a furnished studio with an aesthetic taste, the studio accommodates a television station, a radio station, and a recording studio.
The Department has some of the finest lecturers who are well grounded in the field.
Every department in the school, has been accredited, the mass communication department are expecting the second visit of NBTE this month, November, 2022 for the full accreditation of the Department.

Overview of mass communication.
Communication is the transferring of one’s ideas, thoughts, emotions, feelings to another.
Mass communication was birthed from communication and has lasted for several decades. It is the process of sending messages through the mass media to audience living in distinct amorphous location simultaneously. The mass media are known as newspapers, magazines, TV, radio etc. Although there are few modern technologies that have been added to the mass media, which are the internet and social media.

Mass media has overtime, become a part of the society. It has played its roles of informing, educating and entertaining, these roles have been slowly woven into man’s daily existence. Man needs to informed and be abreast of things happening in the society, the power of information can not be underestimated, no wonder they say “information is knowledge and knowledge is power”. The mass media inform in order to pivot growth and development in the society.
Education is key, through the programs transmitted via the mass media, they are able to impart knowledge and broaden the view of something on members of a society.
Entertainment, the mass media transmits programs that people will enjoy after a long day, like comedy shows, sport shows, dramas, music, cartoons and so on.
The mass media also functions as the surveillance of the state, they monitor and keep watch of the activities of irresponsible citizens and corrupt government officials and also to curb and correct those uncomplimentary behaviors. They are known as the fourth estate realm of the society.
There are so many functions of the mass media, the above are just a few.
Mass communication has indeed evolved, it is no longer seen as the pen and paper profession, and its practitioners jobless. Mass communication has proven itself and also has become what the society can not do without.
